Coach Recaps and Highlights Winter 2025/2026
BNL Varsity Girls Basketball Senior Night 2026
On Monday, February 2nd, the BNL Varsity Girls Basketball team held their Senior Night, celebrating senior Anna Ward. Anna has been a huge part of the team this season with her determination and teamwork. Each time she takes the court, she has gotten stronger and more driven. She has been a positive contributor to the team and will be missed next season. Good luck, Anna, in the rest of your senior year and in your next chapter. The BNL Varsity Basketball team played an excellent first half against Chatham in their Senior Night game. The team played outstanding defense and kept the game close through the first half. With only six players, they lost a little ground in the third quarter, making it hard to recover against Chatham’s bigger bench. In the fourth quarter, the team took to the court, determined to hold their ground, and played a defensive game for the books. The team should be proud of the game they played; it was full of heart and hustle.
Keep working hard, BNL!
BNL Bowling Coach Recap 1/29
BNL Bowling continues to set new records! After travelling to face Stillwater on Tuesday in a match that resulted in defeat, the Mountain Lions invited Stillwater back to their den at the Barbecue on Thursday afternoon and secured the match win 4-1. The bowlers nearly completed a full sweep, only being bested by 6 pins in game three; 1,024-1,018. The team handily secured total pinfall by nearly 300 pins; rolling 3,167-2,875. Congratulations to the team for breaking their own total pinfall record for the third time this year. Now 3,167 is the goal to beat and the bowlers are determined to do so.
Scores within the record were as follows: Myra Snyder fueled the team’s energy and led the Varsity squad as she rolled games of 224, 202, 179 for 605. Devin Reichert was keeping pace with games of 211, 169, 188; 568. Noah Bonesteel found his groove for games two and three, shooting 185, 192 for 535. Just behind was Gabe Florada, high game 226 for 531; and Kaylee Ferrarin, high game 185 for 477. Avyn Capasso rounded out the victory by striking when he needed to and grinding out 451. Congratulations to the Varsity bowlers on their continued growth, success, and spirit. They look to keep the good shots rolling as they begin to set their eyes on the Wasaren League Tournament, taking place on Tuesday 2/3.
The JV Mountain Lions also continue to shine and push each other to be better each shot. With series carrying closer and closer each match, anyone can lead the JV squad at any time. The JV squad was down many players, but Grace Hansen led the day as she rolled a new personal best game of 132 to accompany a 308 series. She also converted an impressive split! Juniper Seifredsberger had a high game of 78 and Tiffany Houser started the day with an 81.
The Mountain Lions have two away matches next week, travelling to compete against Hoosic Valley on Tuesday and Saratoga Catholic on Thursday. Keep the good shots rolling, bowlers! Go BNL! – Coach Marbot and Coach Murphy
BNL Modified Boys Basketball Coach Recap 1/8
The Modified Boys Basketball team struggled to get on the front foot at last night’s loss against Spa Catholic losing 70-21.
Offensive contributions were provided by Grayson Votra, Eli Baker, Charles Sausville, Jay Kreutziger and Silas Hotaling.
Defensively, it was difficult to shake off the holiday rust and get our feet moving!
The next game for the boys will be away January 15th at Hoosick Falls. -Coach Rick
BNL Bowling Coach Recap 12/16
Time for another bowling update! This time BNL competed as the away team against Hoosick Falls. The Mountain Lions faced the Panthers against Falls’ best match of the season, providing a difficult challenge that resulted in a 0-5 sweep. Noah Bonesteel led the day with a new personal high series of 602 – rolling 232, 188, 182. Next high was Kaylee Ferrarin with a high game of 188, 497 series; Gabe Florada 203, 465 series; and Myra Snyder 163, 464.
Ava Amuso led JV with a consistent day, rolling 99, 97, 109 for a 305. Jacob Bonesteel had the high JV game of 113, with Jameson Hawkins right there too with a 110. Coaches Marbot and Murphy are always proud of the whole team after a match, but are especially excited about all of the JV bowlers who continue to make leaps and bounds in their games and bowling knowledge each day. Keep it up Mountain Lions!
The bowling team hosted a home match on Thursday against Hoosic Valley, competing back to back days in their first week of competition. Avyn Capasso came out strong once again with a 199, leading the charge in a close first game against the Hawks. Game two saw Gabe Florada and Myra Snyder rolling great shots, scoring 215 and 202, respectively. Supported by a 172 shot by Kaylee Ferrarin, and solid games from the rest of the Varsity squad, the Mountain Lions won game two and narrowed the pinfall margin to 5. Game three was the deciding factor in a well-fought match, and BNL was defeated 4-1.
The JV squad was also working hard alongside Varsity, with many new bowlers gaining confidence and match experience. Mikhael Florada once again led the squad, showing true grit as he improved his shots each game. Jacob Bonesteel and Jameson Hawkins had the best consistency, and Grace Hansen improved every game, ending with a new high of 99!
Coaches Marbot and Murphy are proud of the team and look forward to what the rest of the season holds. Go BNL! – Coaches Marbot and Coach Murphy
The boys had a phenomenal showing against Coxsackie Athens, coming down to a one-match difference in score, ultimately falling 42-32.
This is the first time in a while we’ve come in competitively as a team. We had strong performances from Louis Gabriel, Joey Zvirzdin, Adam Ford, and Joe Morelli Stone; three out of the four of them had their first varsity match, so kudos and congrats to them.
BNL had some forfeits at some other weights from Sam Zvirzdin and Desmin Hitchcock, which helped elevate us. We also had some tough competition for some of our more experienced guys, like Cody Ozga, Anthony Wood, and Xavier Lamica, who went out there and showed they weren’t scared of some top-notch wrestlers. Overall, it was a fantastic opening night. We ended on a positive note, we’re seeing the fruit of our hard work, and we’re hungry to push further. – Coach DeLuca
BNL Girls Wrestling had an amazing start to their season last night, winning 26-23 over a strong Coxsackie-Athens team.
This is actually the first time any of the Patroon Conference Girls Wrestling teams have been big enough to have full team matches.
After forfeiting the 100-lb weight class to Coxsackie, 7th grader Micah Baker had her first match ever against an equally new Coxsackie girl. The match went back and forth, lasting the entire 6 minutes, and included a nosebleed for the Coxsackie girl. Both girls traded takedowns and step-out points, but Micah ended up losing by just one, 3-4. Still, a very strong start for Micah.
Vinny Dechamps took on one of Coxsackie’s more experienced wrestlers. She gave away a couple of takedowns before putting her opponent on her back in a headlock to secure a pin. This was Vinny’s first varsity win ever, and really was the crucial win of the night.
BNL forfeited to Coxsackie at both 120 and 126 lbs, and both teams forfeited 132.
Holly White made short work of her opponent, pinning her in a cradle.
Vivian Powers took the same path and pinned her girl quickly in a cradle.
152 was another double forfeit.
Jayden MacMillen and Lilly Gabriele received forfeits.
We forfeited to their heavyweight at 235 lbs, but that wasn’t enough to pull Coxsackie ahead.
BNL girls won 26-23.
After the varsity match, we wrestled a couple of extra matches. In an extreme coincidence, 7th grader Isabella Phillips of BNL wrestled Isabella Phillips of Coxsackie-Athens in a bout. It was our Isabella’s first match ever. She was able to secure one takedown on her opponent but ultimately lost 12-2.
Vinny Dechamps also wrestled a second match of her night, but was tired out from her first and was pinned.
Our new girls wrestled really well in their first matches, and our veterans showed how far they’ve come.
A great start to the dual meet season for the BNL Girls. – Coach Prather
