Microcomputer Technician I

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Technical support position for information technology users in the County The position
provides support in service seeking technical assistance. resolving user problems and
assists in the installation and configuration of computer hardware and software. The
work is performed under the direct supervision of higher-level technical staff with
increased independence of action as incumbents acquire more advanced knowledge of
computer systems procedures and operations on the job. A Microcomputer Technician I
also does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Staffs a help desk and receives phone calls from microcomputer and network systems
users, including diagnosing and resolving problems with computer software, hardware,
networks and peripheral equipment;
Provides basic instruction on computer hardware and software functions; Maintains a
computerized log of help desk calls received and actions taken; Assists in the
installation and configuration of computer hardware and software and network printers;
Assists in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of computer hardware and
software;
Assists in the preventative maintenance on existing computer hardware; Troubleshoots
and repairs simple hardware and software problems; Restores files, settings, and
software to establish standards, as needed; Installs and terminates cables for network
connectivity;
Test cables and other equipment as needed.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of microcomputer hardware, software, networks and peripheral
equipment; working knowledge of microcomputer hardware and software technology;
ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing; ability to problem-solve
microcomputer user hardware and software problems; ability to troubleshoot simple
microcomputer hardware and software problems; ability to assist in installing
microcomputer hardware, software and network printers; ability to operate a
microcomputer and utilize common office software programs; ability to establish
effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and empathize with
computer user needs and concerns; ability to follow written and oral instructions; tact;
courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either:
(a) Successful completion of sixty (60) semester credit hours in a regionally accredited
college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant
degrees including completion of twenty-four (24) credit hours in Computer Science,
Computer Information Systems, Information Technology or a closely related field; or
(b) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
and two (2) years of experience in the support and maintenance of microcomputer and
related peripheral equipment; or
(c) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the
limits of (a) and (b) above.

School Psychologist at Berlin Middle High School

Qualifications:

School Nurse, RN Qualifications

  • Must hold a current license to practice in New York State/ Registered Nursing License NYS

Responsibilities Include

  • Provide daily professional nursing services in accordance with Nursing Standards and NYS Licensing to students in the Berlin Central School District.

Custodian 

DEFINITION:
Performs routine cleaning and semi-skilled maintenance tasks; does related work as required
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Employees in this class are responsible for the condition of the school building or an assigned
section thereof. Work includes, besides routine cleaning activities, semi-skilled repair and
maintenance tasks. In large schools, work is under supervision of a head custodian; in smaller
schools a custodian may supervise the work of one or more cleaners and laborers, and assume
responsibility for their work.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Sweeps, mops, washes walls, dusts, and performs other cleaning duties; empties waste
baskets and disposes of rubbish; replaces light bulbs, towels, soap and other supplies; cut
grass trims shrubbery, rakes leaves and generally maintains grounds; paints rooms and
equipment, repairs furniture and makes minor plumbing repairs; knowledge of heating system
for building assigned to.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of buildings and cleaning practices, supplies and equipment, and ability to use
them economically and efficiently; ability to make minor plumbing and mechanical repairs; ability
to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; willingness to perform janitorial
tasks; thoroughness; dependability; good physical condition.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a standard grade school course and some experience in building and
    maintenance work.

Anticipated Custodial Worker

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs routine building cleaning work; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is routine and repetitive manual work calling for the efficient and economical performance
of building cleaning and occasional minor maintenance tasks. Cleaning tasks are performed
under direct supervision or according to specific instructions. Supervision is received from a
custodian or other superior. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of
employees in this class.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (illustrative only)
Empty wastebaskets and remove trash from building each day. Secure room (turn out lights,
close and lock doors, and close windows). Empty pencil sharpeners at least once a week. Dry
mop or vacuum all floors. Wet mop all floors. Check all chair glides (replace if missing). Put all
chairs in rooms (if chairs are not up, please put up and notify building custodian of problem).
Check lights in all areas of building (change light bulbs when blown). Check with building
custodian for extra daily duties. Responsible for setting up and taking down of activities
during shift. Checking outside of building for safety during day and evening hours (for lighting,
sidewalk conditions, etc.). Turning out lights in all areas of building when not in use. Make sure
building is secure (alarm operating and building locked up) before leaving. Responsible for
health and safety of all occupants and general public using school facilities. Report all potential
safety hazards to senior custodian. Act immediately to resolve unsafe situations. Use good
judgment in performing duties to insure efficient, effective and sage working conditions. Exercise
responsibility for students and adults using school facilities. Inquire about strangers in facilities
and support in building security and discipline rules. Do not drill, scrape or otherwise abrade
surfaces without prior approval of the district of Asbestos Designee. Use appropriate clean-up
procedures when working with or cleaning up bodily waste. Report all injuries immediately using
the appropriate forms. Participate in in-service training and Right to Know. Expect frequent
reviews and evaluations of work and respond positively to constructive criticism from
supervisors.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment; ability to follow
simple oral written instructions; willingness to perform routine cleaning and other manual tasks;
good physical condition; ability to lift 80 pounds without damage; ability to get along well with

Part Time – Building Maintenance Worker

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs a variety of semi-skilled building repair and maintenance tasks; does related
work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is a semi-skilled work involving responsibility for independently performing a variety
of mechanical and other building maintenance tasks or for serving as a helper to a
journeyman tradesman. In either case, although a working knowledge of one or more
trades is necessary, a maintenance man does not utilize the more skilled journeymen
techniques for any considerable portion of his time. In addition, the work may involve
the part-time operation of a truck, automobile or other automotive equipment. General
instructions are received and work is performed under immediate or general
supervision, depending upon the nature of the task. Use appropriate materials,
management and procedures.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
Performs semi-skilled work on masonry, carpentry, electrical or painting operations;
Helps to install and repairs wiring systems and electrical fixtures and equipment;
Repairs windows, doors, floors, walls and other parts of building; Does interior and
exterior painting where quality rather than fine quality of work performed is the principal
object; Helps to install and repair general plumbing equipment, such as sinks, toilets
and baths; > Assists in cleaning and repairing boilers, pumps, heaters, pipe lines, valves
and traps; Mixes plaster and concrete and assists in laying brick. Plastering walls,
finishing concrete work, etc.; Operates trucks, automobiles, air compressors, and other
motorized equipment and perform preventative maintenance; Takes part in general
ground maintenance activities; Serves as general handyman performing a variety of
semi-skilled duties; Does related tasks as required; Collects MSDS on all material used
and forwards to O & M secretary.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of modern buildings and grounds maintenance and repair practices;
boiler maintenance; knowledge of the practices and techniques of one or more of the
standard trades; mechanical aptitude; industry; good physical condition; dependability;
manual dexterity; ability to lift 80 pounds without damage; knowledge of basic
precautions related to asbestos and other hazardous material; ability to pass AHERA
Handler certification test.

Two years of experience in general building maintenance or building trades work in one

Berlin Central School District serves a small, rural community with an emphasis on building
