Reading and writing are two life skills that are essential to the academic growth and success of every child. Research has shown, time and again, that the best predictor of reading achievement is the amount of time that a student spends reading. The more a child reads, the more success that a child will have. Research has also proven that ALL students, if they do not read or write over the summer, are likely to lose important reading growth. Don’t let your child slide this summer!! What can you do to help?
Join BES in our school-wide summer reading program! Find out more information about your Mountaineers’ grade level reading challenge below! Please note this information was also sent home with report cards. – Mrs. Glickman aglickman@berlincentral.org BCSD Literacy Coach
Berlin Elementary is excited to partner with our local libraries for their summer reading programs as well! The library programs will honor the logs and activities students complete through the BES summer reading program packets attached below!
Check out your local Library for great summer reads and maybe even find a great book too and join the BES Mountaineers on a Summer Reading Adventure! Please find a list of local library websites and hours near the bottom of this page.
Happy Reading Mountaineers!
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade Summer Reading Challenge
What to do:
- Read for at least four hours (240 minutes this summer). There are thirty pawprints connecting the tents. Each time that you read for twenty minutes, color in one of the pawprints. Your goal is 20 paw prints.
- Complete at least eight of the reading activities outlined in the tents on the Read S’More page. A packet went home in all report cards, but we have also attached one to print out below.
If you return the completed page when school begins again, your child will be invited to a celebration! Even better, you will have kept him/her off the summer slide.
If you have any questions, please contact Berlin Central School District’s Literacy Coach Mrs. Glickman aglickman@berlincentral.org
