On May 31st, Berlin Elementary third graders took a trip to Dyken Pond. Dyken Pond educators Emmlee Davis and Josh Pulito split the third grade Mountaineers into two groups. Mr. Pulito’s group went on a nature walk to explore the forest trail. The students learned about the layers of the forest as they hiked through the woods.

The Mountaineers with Ms. Davis studied the many species found in the small pond near the Dyken Pond Environmental Center. Students caught frogs, frog eggs, bugs, newts and many other exciting pond life.
Dyken Pond has been a wonderful partner to BES this year both during after school enrichment programs and during field trips they have hosted. These programs have inspired many young Mountaineers to get outside in our beautiful surroundings and explore the Rensselaer Plateau.
