Perseverance, continuing on a course of action even in the face of difficulty, was the Character Education trait at Berlin Elementary during the month of March. The BES Odyssey of the Mind team members and their coaches were the special guest presenters during the assembly. The team talked about what the Odyssey of the Mind competition is and how they persevered over the past months even coming in on weekends and staying late after school preparing for their regional competition. On March 25th, the Mountaineer team and their coaches’ perseverance led to their regional first place win!  The BES Community is so proud of their team and can’t wait to cheer them on as they head to the State competition in April. Thank you to the Shooting Stars Class for doing an awesome job while leading the “Mountaineer Mantra” during the assembly!

Each month during the Character Education assembly the Character Counts and Merit awards are handed out.

A BES Mountaineer is responsible, safe and respectful. Merits are given out by BES staff and bus drivers to celebrate Mountaineers who demonstrate these traits. The recipients receive merits that are deposited in the Mountaineer Merit container in BES’s main hallway.

Each month, Principal Kent and Assistant Principal Cataldo draw from this container the names of ten merit recipients (five from kindergarten to second grade and five from third to fifth grade), who receive a prize and recognition at the assemblies.

Congratulations to March’s Mountaineer Merit Winners!

During the March assembly, second grade teacher Mrs. Ruebel received the Restorative Rock Star Award.

Mrs. Ruebel is our Restorative Rockstar this month!  Mrs. Ruebel works to meet the needs of every student individually while also fostering the ability to have a classroom community where all of her students feel safe and heard. Mrs. Ruebel also isn’t afraid to reach out to colleagues to ask for ideas and help when situations arise and does a good job of helping colleagues when they also have questions regarding situations. She fosters a restorative community for the entire school through her kind, caring, and patient nature. Thank you Mrs. Ruebel!

Go Mountaineers!
