Berlin Elementary School competed in the Regional Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) competition Saturday, March 25th at Coxsackie-Athens CSD.  The BES team made up of seven fourth and fifth graders went up against seven other teams in the region and placed FIRST in their Division for Problem 5, “The Most Dramatic Problem Ever”!

“The Most Dramatic Problem Ever”, was to create a humorous performance about a dramatic character that overreacts to common events. In the performance the teams had to showcase different theatrical styles as the character overreacts. One of their reactions was to be justified, but then ignored. The team had to include something that grows and a costume that represents two characters in their performance.

The BES OotM Team will now advance to the State Finals on April 15th at the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY! Coaches Stephanie Scanlon, Courtney Bersaw, and Carol Winner are very proud of the team’s hard work and dedication.

Congratulations on your outstanding win Willamina Woodcock, Tristen MacMillen, Shayana Peterson, Devlin Maciong-Crimmel, Elizah Harrison, Peyton Bink and Dannie Young.

New York State Odyssey of the Mind has been a creative problem solving program for over 40 years, encouraging students to use creativity and teamwork to solve unique problems. The emphasis is on teamwork, budgeting, time management and public speaking.

BES Principal Tracy Kent was proudly rooting the team on during their competition at Coxsackie-Athens yesterday and shared some wonderful photos!

The BES OotM Coaches would also like to send out a big THANK YOU to the BES Custodial staff for coming in on the weekend to allow the team to prepare for the competition, parents/guardians for their support and Mr. Mark Primeau for transporting the team this weekend.

Go Mountaineers!!!
