Earlier this month, accomplished Berlin Elementary principal Tracy Kent announced her intent to retire effective November 22, 2024.  Mrs. Kent has been in the field of education for 31 years, 18 of those years were in the classroom before she transitioned into administration 13 years ago.  Mrs. Kent has spent the last ten years as the principal of Berlin Elementary School.  We thank Mrs. Kent for her dedication to the district and wish her only the best in retirement.

At their regular meeting scheduled for June 18, 2024 the Berlin CSD Board of Education intends to appoint Jodi Cataldo as the next principal of Berlin Elementary School, effective July 1, 2024. Jodi has served as the Assistant Principal at BES since July of 2022.  She was highly recommended to fill the position, by current principal Tracy Kent as well as the faculty and staff in the building.

In the words of Mrs. Kent, “Jodi has proven herself to be dependable, solution oriented, caring and invested in the students and families of our district.  She is a strong leader and I believe that she possesses the attributes and skill sets to transition into the role of principal.”

A compelling letter submitted by the faculty and staff highlights the many contributions that Jodi has made which have positively impacted the entire BES community.  They conclude by stating, “We wholeheartedly endorse Jodi as the ideal candidate for the position of Principal.  Her proven track record of excellence coupled with her exceptional leadership qualities, make her eminently qualified to lead Berlin Elementary School into a future marked by continued success and achievement.” We look forward to Jodi’s continued leadership and contribution in this new and well deserved role.

As Mrs. Cataldo transitions into the next phase of her career, Mrs. Kent will assume the temporary assignment of District Support Specialist. This position is being implemented to provide guidance and direction to our instructional administrators during a time of staffing reductions and restructuring.  The position will be primarily grant funded.  We are pleased that Mrs. Kent, the most senior administrator in the district, has graciously agreed to assume this role effective July 1, 2024, and through her retirement date of November 22, 2024. We appreciate Mrs. Kent’s willingness to take on this role to ensure a smooth transition for students, staff  and families as the district undergoes changes.
