On Friday, October 27th, BES 5th grade teacher Mr. Moseley and his wife Mrs. Moseley visited 4th grade with a puppy, named Glenda, to teach about the Guiding Eyes program.
Mr. and Mrs. Moseley are training Glenda to be a guiding eye dog who will eventually help those who are blind. They spoke to the 4th grade about how dogs are trained, puppy college, and the Guiding Eyes program which helps so many people in need.
This learning opportunity had a great connection to the current Science and Reading units being studied in 4th grade. In science the Mountaineers are learning about how the eye functions, and their current reading unit is about animal senses. They are also reading a text about a young boy who is blind making the hands-on experience that much more impactful.
The fourth grade team and Mountaineers are so grateful that these “Superheroes” were able to come to their classrooms and share the amazing experience they are having with Glenda . Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Mosley and of course Glenda. -Mrs. Bersaw, Mrs. Laz, Ms. Meyer and Ms. Mulvey
