“You could see their faces just light up with joy,” said Mrs. Laz when talking about the Berlin Elementary School 5th grade drama club students, getting a laugh from the audience during their recent production.

It was exciting to have the BES Drama Club take to the stage once again for their production of What Happened After Once Upon a Time.

The drama club, directed by teachers, Ms. Labnon, Mrs. Laz and Mrs. Healy, performed the play for the BCSD community on April 5th and again for the students and staff on April 6th.

The play, written by Alex Alfieri, is a tale of a substitute storyteller who comes in to help narrate classic fairy tales. However, once the story teller starts to tell the tale, things take a humorous twist.

The audience learns through the eyes of the famous characters that things may not always be how they seem.

Though there is a bit of chaos and frustration on the part of the storyteller, played by 5th grader Nick Meyers, in the end they all still live happily ever after.

The players and crew members had rehearsed the play since November.

The 5th grade cast of fairy tale characters: Cinderella (Maya Sykes-Gundlach), Rapunzel (Dannie Young), the Three Little Pigs (Kyle Sweener, Brave Morstad and Brandon Kinnon), the Big Bad Wolf (Connor Sciacco).

Hansel and Gretel (Grayson Sorbello and Sophia Zinna), Jack (Trent Hastings), the King, Queen and Princess (Connor Sciacco, Abreilla Milianta and Serenity Bond- Devine).

Little Red Riding Hood (Lilly Bonesteel) Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (Dannie Young, Trent Hastings, Matthew Schaaphok, Brave Morstad, Abriella Milianta, Maya Sykes- Gundlach, Serenity Bond-Devine and Kyle Sweener); and Goldilocks and Baby Bear (Sophia Zinna and Natalee Cruse).

The drama crew members: Natalee Cruse, Abriella Milianta, Matthew Schaaphok, James Forrest, Serenity Bond-Devine, Brandon Kinnon and Brave Morstad. These students, with the help of Mrs. Healy, designed and painted the set.

Thanks goes to BMHS Ms. Eliashuk and BHS senior Mykalah Canam for their tech and sound work during the show’s two productions.

“It was wonderful to see how proud they were after the show and the way they were congratulating each other,” reflected Mrs. Laz.

BES Principal Kent and Assistant Principal Cataldo were very proud of the Mountaineers and happy to be hosting a production once again at BES!

Congratulations Mountaineers!
