April 5, 2023

Dear Berlin Families,

The NYS Education Department (NYSED) Office of Accountability, under the approved Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver and the approved New York State Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan, released their yearly results on the Accountability Status of public schools across the state.

The Berlin Elementary School which was previously in good standing, continues to maintain that designation, and received a good standing rating again this year. This designation is mentioned as Local Support and Improvement (LSI).

The accountability status for BES remained as LSI from 2021-2022 to 2022-2023.

The Berlin Middle High School rating for all students was previously at the Comprehensive Support and Improvement level (CSI) and has improved by two levels to an LSI – Good standing.

The NYS Education Department has identified a need within Berlin Middle High School for Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) in the area of our students with special needs. With the support of NYSED, Boces and the Regional Partnership, BMHS will continue to focus on a comprehensive and responsive support system in the area of special education.

The Accountability Status for BMHS improved from CSI in 2021-2022 to ATSI in 2022-2023.

The Accountability Status for the Berlin CSD remained as a Targeted District (TD) from 2021-2022 to 2022-2023. Over the coming months BCSD will continue to share information about our education plans.

As always, thank you BCSD Community for your continued support, as we continue to build upon our improvements as a district each year.

Respectfully,

A. Joseph Dhara

Superintendent of Schools
