The Berlin Elementary School 2nd grade has been studying the author and illustrator, Jan Brett, for a number of weeks. With a focus on story elements including setting, characters and plot, students read various Jan Brett texts and closely analyzed her writing and illustrating. For cross curricular connections, students studied Jan Brett’s artwork in their classes with Mrs. Macdonald. For the culmination of our Jan Brett unit, second grade classes visited the Albany Institute of History & Art for the Jan Brett exhibit which included her original paintings as well as an art project and exhibit scavenger hunt. It was a beautifully curated exhibition which will be up until December 31st.
