During the Character Education Assembly on December 9, BES Mountaineers showed their compassion and empathy, both character traits for the month of December, by kicking off the annual pet drive for the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society in Menands.

Each year first grade teacher Mrs. Tracie Heinrichs and the first grade Mountaineers host the pet drive collecting donations of food and supplies for animals in need. Over the holiday break Ms. Heinrichs hand delivers the supplies to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

During the Character Education assembly educators Ms. Caitlin Davis and Ms. Michaela Fisher from the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society talked about their work at the shelter and shared important tips with the Mountaineers about caring for their pets. The educators were there to also answer questions and brought a special guest named Watson.

Ms. Davis and Ms. Fisher also shared information about Telling Tails, which is a way for elementary age students to volunteer their time at the shelter. Please find more information about Telling Tails below.

The Mountaineers shared the slideshow below of their pets with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society educators as a thank you.

Please find the flyer that was backpacked home about the pet drive below. A wish list is also included.

Thank you BES Community for making this drive such a success each year. The shelter always appreciates receiving donations for their friendly animals.
