In a thrilling baseball game between BNL and Waterford Half-Moon, those in attendance at Berlin High School witnessed an amazing comeback win by BNL. BNL, at one point down by ten runs, managed to settle in and battle back to win 14-13, earning their first win of the season.  The game had a lot of action right from the start, with WHM and BNL each scoring twice in their first at bats of the game.  However, WHM quickly took a commanding lead while BNL struggled to keep up on offense.  After a tough top of the 4th inning, WHM had BNL on the ropes and they were sitting on a 13-3 lead.

But BNL wouldn’t give up. They managed to keep the game going by adding four runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th, cutting WHM’s lead to 13-7.  From here, BNL’s defense and pitching stepped up to keep WHM from scoring any more runs and BNL’s offense did the rest over the final three innings.  Mikel Chinchetru, Jack Mace, Kaleb Carabis, Cale Maxon, and Taygen Berry all got on base with hits while Heyden Chittenden, Myren Losaw, Josh Albee, and Aaiden Degroff got on base after being hit by pitches or drawing walks.  BNL would go on to score seven more runs, sealing the victory on a double steal of home by Aaiden Degroff and Cale Maxon on a passed ball and throwing error with two outs in the bottom of the 7th.

Hayden Chittenden, one of BNL’s star players, played extremely well, going 1-1 while drawing two walks and further getting on base via two hit-by-pitches while scoring four runs and stealing three bases.  Chittenden also earned the win as pitcher, striking out three of eight batters and allowing no runs to score while closing out the final two innings.  Mikel Chinchetru was another key player for BNL, with two hits, two RBIs, and two stolen bases.  Jack Mace started on the mound for BNL, striking out two batters while adding two hits including a double, two RBIs, a stolen base, and a run scored. Kaleb Carabis had a great performance as well, going 2-4 with two RBIs, helping to keep BNL in the game.

Cale Maxon got on base in four out of five at bats, including an error-assisted triple, and scored three runs including the game winner.  Taygen Berry layed down a tremendous RBI bunt single and also added two stolen bases and a run scored. Josh Albee contributed two runs scored after drawing two walks and being hit by a pitch. Myren Losaw and Aaiden Degroff both came through when it mattered most, each drawing a 7th inning walk, stealing bases and scoring runs. Losaw also pitched in relief for BNL, striking out three batters over three innings while on the mound.

Overall, it was an exciting game to watch.  BNL showed their resilience and what can be accomplished when you play as a team and refuse to give up, and they earned a hard-fought victory.  -Coach Moseley and Coach Turetsky
