During the month of March, Berlin Elementary students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade celebrated National Reading Month by holding a read aloud March Madness Book Tournament. Throughout the month students enjoyed listening to the round of 16 book contenders. Reading two books a week the Mountaineers voted winners through to the next round each week.

On March 31st, BES Principal Mrs. Kent and Assistant Principal Mrs. Cataldo read the championship round books for the final vote.

Principal Kent read The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Adam Rex, a laugh-out-loud tale about the favorite playground game. Assistant Principal Cataldo read Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts, a story about persistence and learning to celebrate each failure while growing from it.

The two books went head-to-head, ending with a final vote with Daywalt’s The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors coming out as the winner!

First grade Mountaineers celebrated the book champion on the playground!
