BNL Varsity Notches 2nd Win of Season vs Cambridge

“Two wins in a row, you know what that means?  We’re on a (winning) streak, gentlemen!” – Coach Snyder following the game.

The BNL Varsity basketball team soundly defeated Cambridge on their home court on Monday, December 19th.  From the tipoff, Cambridge and BNL appeared to be evenly matched, if largely because BNL came out playing sloppy and loose.  However, BNL managed to exit the first quarter with a slim lead.  Entering the 2nd quarter, they managed to find their composure and execute the game plan on both offense and defense.  Like clockwork, BNL meticulously increased their lead over Cambridge on their way to an 80-49 victory.

The offense was led by a dominating and crowd-silencing performance by Chris Shorter who scored 27 points from all ranges.  Mason Stalker contributed 15 points of his own with dominant play underneath and strong shooting from the floor.  Also scoring for BNL was Daniel Hendricks (10pts), Jesse Franceour (8pts), Alex Smith (7pts), Gabe Hart (6pts), Tyler Shuhart (3pts), Andrew Laundry (2pts), and last, but not least, Aidan Van Dyk (2pts).  Mason Garhartt and Nate Boesse contributed on both sides of the ball with key assists and defensive plays while they were on the court.  Defense for BNL also continued to improve with a huge number of impressive blocks, steals, and solid rebounding all around.

BNL JV Boys Basketball 12/19 Coach Recap

“This needs to be a turning point for this team.  I know the game of basketball pretty well.  I’m pretty good at evaluating individual and team talent, and I’m honest about what I see.  And I know we could be a 4-0 team right now.  Our guys have the physical talent, and the core of this team has the tactical knowledge to compete against anybody.  But we have to learn how to deal with adversity and figure out how to best respond when we do fall behind.” – Coach Jaquish

Honorable Mention(s):  Thomas Durfor and Colin Perkins really stepped up their game in this one despite the lopsided score.  They played hard during their time on the court and positively contributed both offensively and defensively.

BNL looks to regroup and earn their first win of the season Today, December 20th when they host Waterford-Halfmoon at 6:00PM in Berlin.
