The BNL Girls Varsity Soccer team played lights out in their first career sectional game traveling an hour and a half to sixth seed Mayfield last night. Haylee Jones put BNL on the board after only three minutes into the game, with Mayfield responding off a direct free kick one minute later. BNL kicked it into the next gear and made it 2-1 three minutes later after a Madison Bell cross found Lora Acquario’s run in the box. Lora would then send in a cross of her own to a late run from Jessica Bosso on the left hand side to make it 3-1 at halftime. The girls held strong but Mayfield were able to claw their way back to make it 3-3. After two periods of overtime, nothing could separate the two sides, and Mayfield took the victory in penalty kicks. BNL were led by an impressive Becca Madsen who made sixteen saves in goal, and a contingent of experienced seniors and veteran players. Coach Day and Kanofsky are so proud of you all. Let’s continue to grow this program over the offseason. – Coach Day and Kanofsky
