Congratulations to Berlin High School’s Brady Beckwith who placed 3rd with his team at the ProStart Invitational held at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Brady and his two teammates earned a $2000 scholarship to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a $500 scholarship to SUNY Cobleskill.

Learn more about the competition from Brady’s Culinary Arts teacher Chef Andrew Ottati below.

Brady Beckwith was a team member on one of Questar III REC’s culinary arts competition teams. The ProStart Invitational is a NY and Vermont State Culinary and Management Competition held annually. This year the teams competed at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Each team had to present a three-course meal, consisting of an appetizer, entree, and dessert (two plates for each course). Students were tasked with this challenge which needed to be completed in one hour and with the use of only two butane camp burners.

ProStart is the curriculum the class uses at Questar III REC, it is a nationally recognized curriculum sponsored by The National Restaurant Association, and our chapter here in NY is The New York State Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The top three winning teams all receive scholarship money and receive individual trophies and one trophy for our class. Brady and his team did a great job!
