Dear Berlin parents/guardians,

The statewide mask mandate will remain in effect after a New York appellate court judge issued a “stay” Tuesday evening, allowing the governor’s mask mandate to continue amid an appeal.
On Monday, January 24th, a Nassau County Supreme Court judge ruled that the way New York state created its mask mandate was unconstitutional and a violation of state law.

The state appealed the Nassau County decision.

We know that our staff and family have questions about this news and what it means for schools. At this time, all staff and students are required to wear a mask while in our schools. There is no change to the health and safety protocols we have been following in recent months as it relates to masks.

As has been the case throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our priority continues to be the health and safety of our school community. We also remain committed to providing the most up-to-date information to our staff and families. As this most recent situation evolves, we will continue to provide updates via the district website and SchoolMessenger.

Sincerely,

A. Joseph Dhara

Superintendent of Schools
