Today, the Berlin High School Art Department took a field trip, thanks to Mrs. DeCelle finding and securing a KidsConnect grant, to the Olana State Historic Site.
Olana is an historic 19th-century estate and protected landscape on the Hudson River. It was the home and art studio of Frederic Edwin Church, a major figure in the Hudson River School of landscape painting.
Students were able to tour the grounds and estate. Surrounded by the beautiful vista of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains the students created “en plein air” (on site, outdoor) sketching and watercolor painting.
The Mountaineers also visited the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson to view contemporary figure paintings.- Mrs. Colbert and Mrs. DeCelle
