Mrs. Meyers transformed her 7th grade ELA classroom into a coffee shop last week to introduce the students to the novel, Fever 1793, by Laurie Halse Anderson.
The novel’s main character Mattie lives above her family’s coffee shop in Philadelphia. The story takes place during the summer of 1793 when a fever breaks out in the city and turns Mattie’s world upside down.
Mrs. Meyers finds the messages throughout the book of perseverance and self-reliance very impactful for the 7th graders.
The students created journals during Mrs. Meyers’ Cook’s Coffee shop book launch party which they will be writing in throughout the book study.
