The 6th Annual Youth Summit was held on March 7, 2024, at The Capital Center of Albany. Berlin Middle High School had thirteen students in attendance this year along with BMHS teachers Ms. Hammond and Ms. Marbot.

The students were able to gather valuable information from the summit to bring back to their school community. Ms. Marbot and Ms. Hammond were both very impressed with the resources and activities at the event.

“There was very pertinent information, thoughtful activities, and engaging booth exhibits,” said Ms. Marbot.

Engaging and empowering students of the Capital District is the goal of the Youth Summit hosted by the Northeastern Community Action Partnership (NECAP). The event had keynote speakers, resources, support services, coping strategies as well as a sense of community for the youth in attendance.

Members of Berlin High School’s SADD organization attended the summit. SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions, a much broader campaign than the Students Against Drunk Driving SADD initiative first launched back in 1981. These students are part of a national organization whose mission is to educate their peers about the dangers of destructive decisions, which include the dangers and harms of bullying and being a bystander, and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.
