Berlin High School Math teacher Mr. Ellis along with several high school Mountaineers hosted their 5th annual Family Math night on Wednesday, March 13th.

The high school students prepared and presented math games and math problems for families and students to play and solve.

The activities were created and run by students from Mr. Ellis’ Siena Finite Math course, which is part of BHS’ college in the classroom program. The students and the math activities/problems they created for the evening were:

Jaid Vazquez, Who Stole the Cookies?; Graziella Hartman, Math and Music; Aidan Lowell, The Big Binary Bonanza!; Colin Perkins and Logan Healy, Math Escape Room; Elaine Savaria, Alien Invasion Coding; Curtis Hurd, (guest Owen Lowry) Pirate Problem; Lillian Von Schilgen and Charlie Young as Math Magicians!

BHS Student Council, with the help of Ms. Day, Mr. Covell, and Mr. Ellis prepared and sold a menu of tacos and quesadillas during the event.

The evening concluded with three staff members and three students being pied by winners of the door raffle drawing in honor of Pi Day which was earlier in the week.

Thank you to BHS Math Teachers Mr. Ellis and Mr. Cornell, BMHS Principal Mr. Bernsley, and Mountaineers  Elaine Savaria, Madison Bell, and Colin Perkins for being great sports and volunteering to be “pied”.

Thanks goes to Mr. Ellis and all those in attendance for making it a special evening and for celebrating the hard work and preparation of the math students involved.

The Berlin Math Department looks forward to building on this event next year!
