Berlin High School senior Lorelai Goodermote is currently enrolled in the Questar III BOCES New Visions Pathways in Education program at the University at Albany. This half-day program, designed for seniors, focuses on preparing students for a career in education.

As a component part of the program, Lorelai is shadowing Mrs. Courtney Bersaw, a fourth-grade Special Education teacher at the Berlin Elementary School to gain hands-on experience in the classroom. Mrs. Bersaw co-teachers with BES fourth grader Teacher Mrs. Megan Laz at BES.

“I’ve learned so many things about teaching Special Education by observing Mrs. Bersaw in the classroom,” says Lorelai. “Mrs. Bersaw has provided me with more opportunities than I could have hoped for coming into this program, and she is always right by my side, allowing me to ask questions and assisting me when I need it.”

Mrs. Bersaw says Lorelai’s eagerness to learn and passion for teaching is evident and has expressed her pleasure with having Lorelai in her classroom.

“I’ve found great joy in witnessing Lorelai’s progress in the New Visions Pathways in Education program,” says Mrs. Bersaw. “Sharing my teaching experiences with her has been fulfilling, and our students appreciate her energy and kindness.”

“Her enthusiasm for learning will not only foster her own growth and teaching effectiveness but will also positively impact the learning experiences of her future students. Lorelai is well on her way to becoming an outstanding educator.”

Lorelai says that working with Mrs. Bersaw has truly inspired her and has allowed her to grow in many ways. Upon completion of the program, Lorelai will earn college credits  from the University at Albany and gain the necessary experience to pursue her coursework toward a degree in education.
