Jen Poli
Berlin Middle High School
Social Worker

What is your education background?
I attended Bay Path University for my undergraduate studies and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration on child psychology. Next, I attended Simmons University where I completed my Master of Social Work degree. I have earned my NYS License in Clinical Social Worker LCSW and have applied for my permanent certificate as a NYS school social worker.

What is your background like – previous jobs?
I began my career in social work as an outpatient substance abuse counselor in Greene County, NY. I worked individually with patients, facilitated several groups and also worked as the liaison between the clinic and Greene County Regional Treatment Court. I then moved on to work for Columbia County Mental Health as a Therapist on the Child and Family team. While working there I once again provided individual counseling, some family counseling and school based services. I really loved working in the school setting which prompted my decision to transition to working as a school social worker at Questar III.

Tell us about your family.
I got married in June of 2023 and my husband and I bought a house in Rensselaer County this past November. My husband and I are enjoying married life as new home owners and don’t have kids yet but we hope to start a family in the future. We are both close to our extended family and enjoy spending time with them.

What are your interests outside of school?
I love to cook and am often trying new recipes. I am really into making soups and stews recently. My husband and I have spent a lot of time painting our new home and finding projects to start. Since we are new to the area we have been having fun trying out new (to us at least) restaurants. I also enjoy being outdoors and hope to spend this summer camping and swimming in the pool.

What is your role/position in the district?

My position is the LPN/Health Office Substitute and I was the Assistant Coach for the Girls Modified Basketball team this season.

What is your education background?

I started my nursing education at HVCC after graduating from Berlin in 2006, then I went on to complete my Nursing Program at Robert H. Gibson Technical School in 2009. Since then I have continued my education by getting certified in specialties such as wound care and IVs.

What is your background like – previous jobs?

I have been a nurse for 13 years and have worked in many settings at this point in my career, all of them fulfilling in their own way.  Over the years I have worked long term care, been a medicare wellness nurse, a scrub LPN/tech in the Cardiac OR, and a charge nurse at a rehab facility.  I have also worked in and with pediatrics specifically for 5 years now.

Tell us about your family?

I am currently engaged with a 14 year old daughter.

What are your interests outside of school?

Spending time with family and friends takes up most of my time outside of school. Although I am a huge foodie, love traveling, and am a sucker for museums.
