The BNL Girls Varsity Soccer team earned their first sectional win in program history, after winning a 2-1 upset victory in overtime against seven seed Bolton-Warrensburg on Friday. After an almost two-hour bus ride, the girls started building into their rhythm in the first half. Both sides traded looks and opportunities, but ultimately the first half ended 0-0. BNL began mounting pressure in the second half, creating more clinical chances as they moved the ball around Bolton’s half of the field. With fifteen minutes left in the game, Haylee Jones applied pressure to the Bolton keeper who lost possession of the ball. Haylee was able to poke the ball away, and score the first goal of the game to put BNL up 1-0. Fifteen seconds later, Bolton would win a penalty kick off a long ball booted down the field, making it 1-1. Despite several other good chances for BNL, regulation would end with the two sides at 1-1. It wouldn’t take long for the game winner, as thirty seconds into overtime, BNL pressed Bolton to win the ball back, work the ball from the right-hand side out to the left, and then back to the top of the box where Lizzy Hunt hit a bending shot to the far corner that beat the keeper giving BNL the 2-1 win. The girls move on to the quarterfinals this Tuesday evening where they travel to Stillwater to play the second seed of the bracket. -Coach Kanofsky and Coach Dickson
