BCSD wishes Mrs. Putterman-Hoffmann all the best in her retirement and thanks her for her service to the Berlin Central School District.

On October 19th, Berlin Middle High School Social Worker Mrs. Melissa Putterman-Hoffmann will work her last day onsite as BMHS’ Social Worker.

In May of this year, Mrs. Sarah Leonard started at BMHS working along side Mrs. Putterman-Hoffmann. Since then, Mrs. Leonard has been able to learn and engage in her new role, creating her own relationships with the BMHS students and family.

Mrs. Leonard will be taking on various programs as well from Mrs. Putterman-Hoffmann one being the confidential number for those in need of food within the Berlin Middle High School building.

What is your education background?

I have completed my undergraduate degree at UAlbany- Sociology, my masters degree at Capella University- Social Work and completed a Drug and Alcohol Counseling Certificate Program and SUNY Tompkins Cortland Community College to become a prospective drug and alcohol counselor.  I am NYS Licensed Master Social Work (LMSW) and Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee (CASAC-T).

What is your background like – previous jobs?

I have worked at Vanderheyden’s Residential Treatment Center for 8 years as both a Case Manager, Case Management Supervisor and Diagnostic Clinician.

How long have you been working in the district?

 I started working for the district at the Berlin Middle High School on May 1, 2023.

Tell us about your family?

 I have two children in the district ages 14 and 5. My husband owns a local Masonry Company, and we live on a small family farm in the area.

What are your interests outside of school?

My children and I are passionate about riding and showing horses. Most of our free time is spent on the road traveling to lessons, clinics and horse shows.
