On October 17th, Ms. Honsinger’s BHS Health class welcomed Stephentown Volunteer firefighter, Ms. Jennifer Peabody.
Ms. Peabody spoke to the high school Mountaineers about what it means to be a volunteer in our community and shared her experience. The students were also introduced to a film about being a volunteer emergency responder called, “Odd Hours, No Pay, Cool Hat,” an inspiring documentary about the importance of the volunteer fire department.
Ms. Honsinger, an American Red Cross First Aid/AED/CPR instructor and a Health and Physical Education teacher at BMHS invites volunteers into her classroom to inspire and educate students.
Ms. Honsinger also hopes that these types of engaging lessons will boost interest and/or enrollment in emergency response volunteers. Students must be at least 16 years old to receive American Red Cross certification.
Those who are interested in receiving more information about volunteering in Rensselaer County can contact a volunteer at their local firehouse or EMT station or email volunteer@rensco.com.
Thank you to Ms. Peabody and all of our volunteer emergency responders for their dedication to our BCSD Community.
