BNL JV Baseball Weekly Recap

4/17-4/21

The Berlin-New Lebanon JV baseball team played three tough games this week as they reached the halfway point in their season.

BNL JV Baseball vs Greenwich 4/19

First up on Wednesday, BNL traveled to Greenwich where the boys struggled to get much going on offense and errors and walks led to a lopsided final score.  Despite the lack of production as a team, Mikel Chinchetru and Alex Maxon led BNL on offense, with Chinchetru going 2-2 with two singles and a stolen base and Maxon going 1-2 with a two RBI single and a stolen base of his own.  Jack Mace and Myren Losaw also contributed by going 1-2 with Losaw also adding a stolen base and a run scored. Josh Albee drew a walk and scored a run for BNL.

BNL JV Baseball vs Tamarac 4/20

Thursday, BNL hosted their Berlin home opener against Tamarac.  BNL played a competitive game, managing to stay within striking distance until the final few innings.  BNL kept the defensive errors to a season low, their pitching remained consistent, and offense started off the game getting runners on base and moving.  Leading BNL on the mound was Myren Losaw who pitched 3 innings, striking out six.  On offense, Hayden Chittenden (1-3; double; run scored) had the honor of being the first Berlin-New Lebanon player to record a hit on the new field, hitting a monster shot to left center and hustled his way to a double.  Chittenden would later be the first BNL player to score a run on the field after being batted in by Mikel Chinchetru (2-3; RBI).  Adding hits of their own were Kaleb Carabis (1-2) and Alex Maxon (2-2; RBI). Myren Losaw reached the bases on a walk and scored a run.

BNL JV Baseball vs Greenwich 4/21

Rounding out the week on Friday, BNL took on Greenwich at home in Berlin.  Aaiden Degroff started on the mound and threw exceptionally well, although Greenwich hitters did an equally good job putting the ball in play just outside the range of defensive players. However, BNL looked poised to keep pace going into their first at bats. Leadoff batter Hayden Chittenden drew a walk and second up Mikel Chinchetru hit a line drive single to right and eventually stole home on a passed ball.  Jack Mace added a hit of his own as did Alex Maxon who’s two out single to deep right center allowed Jack Mace to score for BNL.  Myren Losaw kept the two out rally going when he added a hard hit double.  Sadly, Alex Maxon sustained a season ending injury as he reached third base.

Alex Maxon has been an emerging and potent offensive weapon for BNL and his injury is an emotional one for himself, the players, coaches, friends, family, and all those who know him. We all hope to see him back next year and expect to see him pick up where he left off.
