Over the holiday break, the BNL boys JV basketball team participated in the Saratoga-Catholic Holiday Tournament.  BNL took to the court in Round One on Tuesday, December 27th, playing against the Fort Ann Cardinals.  Although BNL came out slow to open the game, the JV boys never trailed against the Cardinals.  By the 4th quarter, there was no chance for a Fort Ann comeback.

The BNL offensive attack was led by Anthony Ray (20pts), Jordan Harmon (7pts) and Thomas Dufor (6pts).  Defensively, Kaleb Carabis (3pts) stood out, securing 10 rebounds, three steals, and six blocks.  This was a true team win, with multiple players making significant contributions on offense and defense.  Jeramiah Gates added two points, four rebounds, and two steals.  Landon Jaquish scored two-points while adding two rebounds and seven steals.  Josh Bartolotta, Javhon Amuso, and Colin Perkins also provided pivotal rebounds and steals to help keep Fort Ann’s offense on the back foot.

BNL earned the first round victory, defeating Fort Ann 44-26.  Next up for BNL would be a third game and rematch against Cambridge, who managed to beat host Saratoga-Catholic following BNL’s victory over Fort Ann.

Playing against Cambridge for the third time this season, BNL felt confident that they could correct a number of mistakes and issues that plagued them in their previous matchups.  Immediately following the tip-off, this appeared like it might be the case, with BNL jumping up to a quick lead, exactly according to plan.  But Cambridge again proved to be a strong perimeter shooting team, and while trying to adjust to limit open shots, defensive miscues by BNL off rebounds and under the basket allowed Cambridge to slowly and methodically increase their lead going into halftime.  BNL has been a 2nd half team all season, but they again found themselves facing a large deficit entering the 3rd quarter. Despite playing much better offensive and defensive basketball in the 2nd half, and cutting deep into Cambridge’s lead, they were unable to close the gap by the final buzzer, losing 45-32.

Despite the loss in the tournament final, BNL fought throughout.  Earning BNL Tournament MVP Honors was Anthony Ray who scored a total of 31 points and played outstanding defense throughout the tournament.  – Coach Jaquish and Assistant Coach Moseley
