The Berlin-New Lebanon Boys Modified Soccer team defeated Waterford-Halfmoon Tuesday, 10/11 by a score of 7-2. The offense was on full display with four players scoring for BNL. Leading the way was Markell Popov with three goals, while Jack Hart contributed two of his own. Also scoring goals for BNL was Lukas Zuke (1) and Hayden Chittenden (1).
Playing up one player in the first quarter, BNL managed to score two goals and never looked back. For the remainder of the game, BNL played with just 10 on the field to match Waterford. It took a little time for the boys to adjust to a new formation and responsibilities, but soon, BNL would see their lead grow. Still, Waterford-Halfmoon managed to catch the defense off guard and score a goal of their own in the 2nd quarter, bringing the score to 3-1. However, the offensive momentum was on BNL’s side all game, and although Waterford would score one more goal in the 3rd quarter off a penalty kick, BNL’s lead was never challenged.
While there is still plenty to be refined, the BNL boys continued to string together good plays at the right times to create offensive opportunities for the team. Next up for BNL is their final home game of the season against Hoosic Valley on Thursday October 13th at the Berlin MSHS field. -Coach Moseley and Coach Crimmel
