BNL Modified Baseball Weekly Recap 5/2 to 5/7

5/3 Mechanicville
BNL’s modified team traveled to Mechanicville where they struggled to get much going.  Starting on the mound for BNL was Jack Mace who threw two innings, striking out two batters.  Nick Davis came on in relief, striking out an additional batter.  Leading the way on offense for BNL was Gabe Smith with a leadoff single and Myren Losaw with a double.  Reaching base for BNL as well was Christopher June ( 2-stolen bases, 1-run scored), Damien Libenow (1-stolen base), Taygen Berry (1-stolen base) and Hayden Chittenden.

5/5 vs Tamarac
Next up for BNL in week 2 was a home game against Tamarac.  Starting at pitcher for BNL was Myren Losaw  who threw two complete innings, striking out one batter.  Kaleb Sweener came on in relief for BNL, striking out five batters and only allowing one additional run.  The offense for BNL struggled to get much going against stifling pitching by Tamarac.  BNL was anchored on offense by Myren Losaw who managed a single, double, and two RBIs.  Additional players getting hits for BNL were Jordan Harmon (1-H, 1-SB) and James Loucks (1-H).  Also getting on base was Gabe Smith,  Joshua Albee (1-SB), Kaleb Sweener ( 2-SB 1-RS) and Jake Bosso (2-SB, 1-RS).  While the end result was another loss, this was a major step up overall for BNL, especially in terms of pitching.  Competing in baseball starts with the pitcher.  BNL is beginning to find consistency and accuracy on the mound which will allow them to be more competitive.

5/7 vs Waterford
BNL played their first Saturday game of the season, traveling bright and early to take on Waterford.  This was by far the closest and best game of the season thus far for BNL.  The game came down to the final at bat in the 7th inning.  Pitching came out strong for BNL today.  Starting pitcher Jordan Harmon threw four innings, striking out eight batters.  Coming in in relief was Myren Losaw  who closed out the game, striking out three additional batters in two innings of work while only allowing one run.  BNL kept the game close with strong pitching and enough defense to keep the score within reach after falling behind early.  Offensively, BNL did struggle to maintain momentum and capitalize with runners in scoring position.  Jordan Harmon led all BNL hitters going two-for-three with a single, a double, base-on-balls, four stolen bases, two RBIs, and two runs scored.  Kaleb Sweener  added a double of his own.  Also contributing individual hits for BNL were Nick Davis, Jack Mace, and Myren Losaw.  Ultimately, BNL left 5 runners on base over the final two innings, leading to loss and final score of 6-5.

BNL looks forward to three games next week, traveling to Stillwater TODAY 5/10, home vs Greenwich on 5/12, and a rematch at home against Waterford on 5/14.
