Dear BMHS Parents/Guardians:

In the past month, the New York State Education Department has released information regarding the June 2021 Regents schedule. As you may know, New York State’s waiver to cancel all assessments was denied. Because of this, we are required to offer four Regents Exams during the last two weeks of June. All other Regents (Global History, US History, Geometry, Algebra 2, Chemistry, Physics) will be cancelled. The dates and times of the required Regents Exams are as follows:

  • Thursday, June 17th – 8:30 A.M. – English Language Arts
  • Tuesday, June 22nd – 8:30 A.M. – Living Environment (Biology)
  • Wednesday, June 23rd – 8:30 A.M. – Algebra 1
  • Thursday, June 24th – 8:30 A.M. – Earth Science

The District will provide transportation in the morning at normal time but please have your child ready about ten minutes early. Additionally, a bus will leave BMHS each day at 11:30 to bring students home. If students who are testing would like school lunch, please pre-order as usual. If your child has extended time for testing and requires a bus home, please let your child’s guidance counselor know.

Students who are enrolled in Living Environment, Earth Science, English 11, and Algebra 1 are already signed up to take the corresponding Regents Exam (dates and times are listed above). However, the NYS Education Department has communicated to schools that participation in these exams is optional. This year, taking the Regents Exam cannot “hurt” a student’s GPA. If a student passes the course, based on the average of the four quarters, but does not take the Regents Exam, the student will earn an Exemption. This will be listed as an “E” on their transcript, indicating that they have met the graduation requirement.

If a student does elect to take the exam, the family can make a decision after the scores are received as to whether they would like the score to be used and displayed on the transcript. This means that if a student were to fail the exam or receive an unsatisfactory test score, they may choose an Exemption instead of displaying the actual test score on his/her transcript. The Regents Exam score will not be used in the calculation of the final average even if you elect to take the exam.
Families will have to elect to refuse the exam through a Google Form that is due by Thursday, May 27th. If the Google Form is not completed, we will assume your child’s participation in the Regents Exams. The Google Form can be accessed through this link: Regents Refusal Form
