The Berlin Central School District has been informed of a positive COVID-19 test result for a student at Berlin Elementary School. This individual has not been physically present in school since November 23rd.

The district is working closely with the Rensselaer County Department of Health, which is taking the lead role in the situation. We are working to determine the next steps, including a possible quarantine of students and staff. We will share additional information on our website over the holiday break.

In the event you are contacted by a representative of the County DOH, we encourage you to offer your complete cooperation. If you are not contacted, there is nothing further you need to do.

The district will also implement the deep cleaning/disinfection of any potentially impacted areas as per NYSDOH and CDC guidelines.

While we fully understand you would like additional details, we are not permitted by privacy laws to identify the student involved. Anyone with questions and/or who needs to report a COVID-19 related health issue should contact the Berlin COVID Coordinator, Michele Corsey, at mcorsey@berlincentral.org.

In these challenging times, rest assured that the district’s priority is protecting the health and safety of our students and staff and complying with state and local guidance.
