Second grade students in Mrs. Ruebel’s class have spent a lot of time building a classroom community and getting to know their new classmates. Each day, the class listened to a read aloud that helped accomplish this. Many books focused on different feelings that students have, especially when returning to school after remote learning in the spring. After listening to In My Heart by Jo Witek, students created a drawing and identified how they were feeling that day. By completing this activity, students not only learned the vocabulary to use when discussing feelings, but also had time to notice how they are feeling and why they feel that way.
