Bennington College Young Writers Awards

Bennington launched the Young Writers Awards to promote excellence in writing at the high school level. Our goal with this competition is to recognize outstanding writing achievement by high school students. Each year, students in the 9th-12th grades are invited to enter in one of the following categories with the following submission:

Poetry: A group of three poems Fiction:

A short story (1,500 words or fewer) or one-act play (run no more than 30 minutes of playing time)

Nonfiction: A personal or academic essay (1,500 words or fewer)

 

Leonard Bus Sales

“A Day in the Life of a School Bus” 2022-2023 Art Competition & Scholarship

We are pleased to announce the 5th Annual Leonard Bus Sales “A Day in the Life of a School Bus” Art Competition & Scholarship for 2022/2023 school year high school Juniors and Seniors in New York State. The aim of this art contest is to recognize and encourage the artistic talents of high school students across the state. The winner of the competition will receive a $1,000 scholarship and have their artwork professionally reproduced and shared with school districts and school bus enthusiasts across New York State.

Artwork Submission

  • Art submissions must be sent electronically (high resolution photo or scanned reproduction)
    and emailed to Amanda Walker at awalker@leonardbus.com.

 

Voice of Democracy Essay Competition 2022 – 2023

Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW’s) premier scholarship program.

The theme is:  Why it the Veteran important?

WHO CAN ENTER

The Voice of Democracy Essay Competition is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories.

HOW TO ENTER

Students wishing to participate should contact their school counselor for directions.  The counseling office staff will assist students in this process.  They must submit their essays to the Counseling Office by October 31st.  You must submit a 3 and 5 minute audio essay, a typed essay and completed entry form to the counseling office.  A monetary award will be presented to the local winner at the Awards Ceremony in June.
