Though we continue to receive guidance from both the Federal and State Education Departments, grading practices remain in the hands of local school districts. As an administrative team, we have met to discuss this issue. At this time it is critical that we are sensitive to ensuring that all students receive the best education possible under the current conditions. To that end, we have created a modified grading policy that addresses our assessment of students at the elementary level and our grading of students at the secondary level. This modification to grading strives to ensure equity for students to the greatest extent possible during these unprecedented times.
In this time of remote learning at BCSD, however, teachers are left wondering if their fitness trackers work anymore. And have they really been sitting at their computers for that many hours!
Teachers are having to rethink teaching methods and media and create new ways to reach their students. This means engaging students via many different platforms. One of these platforms is the virtual class meeting and, as always, teachers are getting creative and resourceful.
Like many of us, Allison is at home, not knowing when life will go back to what it was, due to coronavirus precautions. When Allison is not busy with her school work she is helping her mother sew, and to date they have sewn over 300 masks and about 50 pieces of headwear to use with N95 respirator masks for nursing home and daycare providers.
On April 16, the Berlin Central School District Class of 2020 arrived at the Berlin Middle-High School parking for the announcement of the “Top 10” with a twist. To maintain social distance, students and families backed into specially marked senior parking spots with signs for the seniors and families. These were a gift from Berlin CSD and a way for families to highlight their extraordinary seniors from home.
Seniors please take time to check out the scholarship opportunities that are still taking applications.
