Superintendent Search Update –

Each month Berlin CSD Board of Education President, Katie Murray will give the community an update on the search for a new Superintendent of Schools.

Board of Education Meeting December 17, 2024 

Please find highlights from her December 2024 search update below.

  • On Monday December 9th, the BOE met with the search consultants Questar III BOCES to review applications. Questar received a total of 15 applications for the superintendent position.
  • The BOE has narrowed the pool to four applicants to interview on December 19th, at Questar III.
  • The BOE also plans to engage a stakeholder group for second round interviews during the week of January 6th.
  • This stakeholder group will be tasked with providing the BOE with feedback on candidates – to rate answers to their questions and to provide comments on the strengths and weaknesses of individual candidates as well as questions they would want to us ask as a follow-up.
  • Questar III will present this information as a report both in summary form, but also the group’s full, unedited comments. This information will be used by the BOE to further narrow our candidate pool for our final round of interviews in late January.

The Board of Education will provide another update at the next board meeting on January 21, 2025.

Board of Education Meeting November 19, 2024 

. Please find highlights from her November 2024 search update below.

  • The Board of Education has appointed Questar III BOCES as search consultants, to help coordinate the superintendent search, with a goal to have a new superintendent start on July 1, 2025.
  • On October 30th, Questar III District Superintendent Dr. Gladys Cruz and her team met with the Board of Education in a special meeting to review feedback from the community survey, discuss the search brochure, application, and strategy for advertising. 
    • The Berlin CSD Board of Education would like to thank the community for taking the time to complete the superintendent search survey.  A total of 408 individuals responded to the online survey and a summary report is available on the website. This information was used to finalize the search materials. The BOE plans to use some of the community provided questions in their interviews. 
  • Advertisements for the superintendent position were shared statewide and nationally on November 1st. 
    • OLAS (an online job board for K-12 education)
    • New York State Council of School Superintendents (NYSCOSS)
    • Association of School Business Officials New York
    • Association of Educational Service Agencies (AESA)
    • New York State Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents. 
    • Information was also sent out on educational email listservs across the state as well as posted on Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Applications for the position will close on December 1st. A brochure, application, and video outlining our position are posted on our website.
  • The board will meet with Questar III again on December 9th, to review all applications and to discuss who the board would like to interview as part of its first round of interviews.
  • The board will then narrow the pool to interview with a stakeholder committee of community members and staff in January. Individuals must be available the evenings of January 7th, 8th and 9th.

 

 

Berlin CSD 2024 Superintendent Search Interview Committee Interest Letter

Dear Mountaineer Community,

As part of the search for the next superintendent of the Berlin Central School District, the Board of Education is seeking the involvement of all stakeholder groups to participate in interviewing prospective candidates.  We are looking for representatives from the following groups:

  • Administrators
  • Teachers
  • Faculty & Staff
  • Parent
  • Community Members
  • Students

The time commitment would be as follows:

  • Tuesday, January 7, 2025 5:00pm – 6:30pm Stakeholder Training
  • Wednesday, January 8, 2025 5:00pm – 7:00pm Day 1 Interviews
  • Thursday, January 9, 2025 5:00pm – 7:00pm Day 2 Interviews (if needed)

You would need to be available for all sessions.

If you would be interested in serving as a member of the interview committee, please complete the brief Interview Committee Interest Form.  All responses should be submitted by December 1, 2024, for consideration. The board will meet to review submissions and finalize stakeholder groups.  Selected participants will be notified by December 13, 2024.
