On the first Thursday of the academic year, Berlin Middle High School Principal David Bernsley and Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Meghan Reynolds held two town hall-style meetings, one for middle school students (grades 6-8) and one for high school students (grades 9-12).

The purpose of these gatherings was to establish expectations for the school year, review updates to the code of conduct, and emphasize the importance of mindset and preparedness in achieving academic success.

Principal Bernsley encouraged students to approach the new academic year with a fresh perspective, focusing on the opportunities ahead rather than past experiences. He also urged students to step out of their comfort zones, seize opportunities with enthusiasm, and avoid regret about their level of engagement during their time at BMHS.

Mr. Bernsley also highlighted the importance of hard work, stating that it can surpass talent, and provided the Mountaineers with a list of 10 things that require zero talent but can inspire success: being on time; making an effort; bringing positive energy; having a positive attitude; being passionate; using good body language; being coachable; doing a little extra; being prepared; and having a strong work ethic. Mr. Bernsley will be hanging these reminders around the building this school year.

Assistant Principal Reynolds followed up with a review of the updates to the BMHS Code of Conduct and processes and procedures for late bus sign-ups and class attendance/tardiness.

The Code of Conduct can be found here: https://berlincentral.org/2026/08/20/bcsds-2025-26-bmhs-and-bes-codes-of-conduct-2/.

Mr. Bernsley and Mrs. Reynolds welcomed questions and encouraged students to reach out to them or the counseling office for support and guidance throughout the academic year.
