Berlin Elementary’s Extended School Year (ESY) program provides specialized special education and related therapies beyond the standard academic year. This summer, 23 students are participating in the program, which was enriched today by a unique visit from three 5-month-old Toggenburg goats. This is the third year ESY educator Ms. Ballard has collaborated with Bethany from Grace Like Rain Homestead to bring the goats to the students for a hands-on learning experience. The goats’ curious nature makes them a perfect companion, enabling a comfortable and approachable interaction with the students. The connection between the students and goats is something ESY educators Mrs. Baker and Ms. Bell love to witness, as it provides a calming and grounding sensory experience, particularly beneficial for students who experience sensory overload or anxiety. Thanks to Ms. Ballard and Grace Like Rain Homestead for connecting the ESY students, staff, and goats today, creating a rewarding experience for all involved.
