The Berlin Central School District would like to thank and recognize junior Mountaineer Isabella Ovitt, who served as the BCSD’s ex-officio board member during the 2025-2026 academic year. Isabella demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and effectively communicated upcoming activities, reported back on school events, and shared the feedback and perspectives of the student body to the BCSD Board of Education.
Superintendent Ken Rizzo commended Isabella’s dedication to civic engagement and her invaluable contributions to the school board. In recognition of her outstanding service, Mr. Rizzo and his executive secretary/district clerk, Dawn Demick, presented Isabella with a certificate of appreciation today.
Isabella’s appointment is the fifth for the Berlin CSD Board of Education, all of which preceded the signing of a bill into law on September 12, 2025, which requires all New York school districts to have at least one ex-officio student representative. This bill created more opportunities for training and support for Isabella and future ex-officio members from the New York State Education Department and the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) to help them thrive in their positions. Isabella was happy to take advantage of these training sessions this school year.
The Berlin Central School District and its BOE extend their gratitude to Isabella for her commitment to the district and her leadership of the Mountaineer student body.
