On June 11th, the Berlin CSD STARS Program, which stands for Students Taking Action and Responsibility for Success, held a Family BBQ at the Stephentown Fire House as part of the Friendly STARS initiative.
Throughout the year, the STARS program, led by Bright Stars (K-2): Emily Tergliafera, Shooting Stars (3-5): Deanna Baker, Starburst (6-8): Sara Roth, and Super Stars (9-12): Annette Bell, creates opportunities for all four STARS classes to come together and provide mentorship and collaborative efforts towards STAR goals. The outings and gatherings offer opportunities for students to gain real-life experience and create and foster friendships.
The Family BBQ was a gathering to acknowledge the hard work the STARS Mountaineers have put in this school year. It was also a time for families, friends, teaching staff, and administrators to gather as a community with the students in celebration of the learning, community, and growth that was fostered and made this school year.
A positive and supportive school culture is the first step to an effective Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Framework. Community norms help shape behavior, and this increased sense of belonging leads to increased accountability based on the development of natural motivation.
It was a packed house filled with joy and pride for the accomplishments of the Mountaineers this school year.
Special thanks to the Stephentown Fire Hall for the wonderful space and the STARS staff for the planning, organizing, and preparation it took to make the day a memorable one for all in attendance.
Go Mountaineers!!
