On May 21st, the Berlin Mountaineer Unified Basketball team played their championship game of the season against Fort Edward at the MVP Arena!
The championship game started at 9 am and was a nailbiter all the way through, with the Mountaineers showing incredible defense and ramping up their offense in the final quarter, ultimately falling to the Forts by one basket.

The Special Olympics of New York (Capital Region) hosted the Unified Basketball Championships for Section 2 in Albany, bringing together hundreds of student athletes and unified partners to compete for the sectional championship titles.
Berlin Mountaineers from the varsity basketball squads and the STARS classrooms filled a bus to come out and root on their team, along with teaching staff and community members. The Mountaineer crowd brought their green and gold spirit to the court at the MVP Arena.
Berlin Middle High School Principal/Unified Basketball Coach Mr. David Bernsley and BMHS Special Education Teacher/Unified Coach Mrs. Annette Bell were so proud of the incredible first season the unified basketball team had with each player demonstrating so much growth and cooperation. The final game was a true example of their dedication to becoming a team.
Way to go, Mountaineers!!

Thank you to Berlin Athletic Director Mrs. Meghan Reynolds, Mrs. Bell and all the unified student-athletes for taking the lead and spearheading the first Unified Sports Program for Berlin CSD this school year, which included Bocce, Bowling, and Basketball.
Thank you to all who helped coordinate, coach, and support the Unified Sports Program. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!
Let’s Go Mountaineers!!
