Thanks to funding from Stewart’s Shops through the Stewart’s Match program, Mr. Dobbins has introduced an innovative STEAM Cart designed to bring hands-on learning opportunities to classrooms throughout the building. The cart is stocked with a variety of materials that encourage students to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through creative, problem-solving activities.
Mr. Dobbins’ kindergarten class was the first to pilot the STEAM Cart, engaging in an exciting design challenge that asked students to build structures capable of keeping animals safe and dry during a storm. Using a range of materials, students collaborated, tested ideas, and refined their designs while developing critical thinking and teamwork skills.
The STEAM Cart will be available for all classrooms to borrow, providing equitable access to engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences. This initiative not only enhances the district’s commitment to hands-on education, but also empowers students to think creatively, take risks, and build confidence as young innovators. – Mr. Dobbins, Belin Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher
