Dear Mountaineer Community,
This spring, Berlin Elementary School will administer the New York State Grades 3-5 assessments in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Grade 5 Science. All exams will be computer-based using student Chromebooks, which students have been using throughout the school year.

The ELA, Math, and Science exams include multiple-choice and open-ended questions aligned to grade-level standards. Students are asked to read, write, analyze, and solve problems—skills essential for success in the next grade level.
These assessments provide valuable information about your child’s academic progress. Score reports highlight specifi c skill areas and compare performance statewide. Please note that state test results may differ from report card grades, which refl ect cumulative classroom performance.
We strongly encourage student participation. Broad participation helps us better understand student learning and allows us to target instruction and resources where they are needed most.
To prepare, we encourage students to come to school well-rested, remain relaxed, and simply try their best.

If you wish to opt your child out of NYSED assessments, please contact me (jcataldo@berlincentral.org) to confi rm your decision.
Thank you for your continued partnership. If you have any questions, please contact me at jcataldo@berlincentral.org or (518) 658-1500 ext. 3003.
Warm regards,

Jodi Cataldo
Principal
Berlin Elementary School
