Congratulations to the Berlin Elementary and Middle School Mountaineer Artists whose artwork was selected for the 17th annual K-8 Empire State Plaza Art Collection Exhibition and the WMHT Youth Art Month online gallery.

17th annual K-8 Empire State Plaza Art Collection Exhibition

The 17th annual K-8 Empire State Plaza Art Collection Exhibition, a one-of-a-kind exhibit for K-8 students, will be displayed in the South Concourse of the Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY, from March 2nd to 22nd when the concourse is open. This exhibit showcases how students’ artwork was inspired by the Empire State Plaza Collection, consisting of 92 Abstract Expressionist Art works. The student exhibition will feature over 1,600 artworks from surrounding Capital Region school districts, in conjunction with National Youth Art Month in March.

The Mountaineers and their families are invited to an opening reception honoring participating students at 5:30 pm on March 12th, featuring keynote speaker Elizabeth Zunon, an Albany-based, award-winning children’s book illustrator and author.

This exhibit is special for Berlin Elementary School Art Teacher Ms. Michelle MacDonald, as her Modern Art professor at SUNY Purchase, Mr. Irving Sandler, was involved in collecting artwork and curating the permanent collection at the Empire State Plaza, which the students’ artwork is inspired by. Ms. MacDonald, Ms. DeCelle, Ms. Colbert, BES Principal Mrs. Jodi Cataldo, and BMHS Principal Mr. David Bernsley are excited to congratulate the Mountaineer Artists selected for this year’s exhibition.
