The New York State third-grade curriculum emphasizes the exploration of Communities Around the World. In January, Mr. Bourquard’s class delved into the diverse regions of Asia, leading up to the celebration of the Lunar New Year, which begins today, February 17th and concludes on February 23rd, 2026.
As part of their studies, students collaborated on a group research project, investigating various Asian animals, developing research skills, and creating informative brochures that they presented to their peers and Berlin CSD Technology and Instructional Support Coordinator, Mrs. Gilbert. The project showcased the vastness of Asia, and helped generate a deeper understanding of the continent’s scale and diverse ecosystems. Students gained valuable knowledge of gathering and selecting relevant information and images for their brochures. The Lunar New Year celebration has been an enriching experience, and the Mountaineers are thrilled to share their newfound knowledge. A special thanks to retired third-grade teacher Ms. V. Healy, who inspired Mr. Bourquard to continue teaching the significance of the Lunar New Year traditions.
