Good luck to the Middle School Mountaineers’ Future City team this weekend! The team will compete at Shaker High School tomorrow, January 17th.
Future City is a hands-on, cross-curricular educational middle school Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) competition that brings STEM to life for students. Students are tasked with designing a futuristic city for the competition, with innovative solutions to some of today’s most pressing sustainability issues; this year, teams were tasked with design a future city that eliminates food waste from farm to table while keeping its citizens healthy and safe.
Mountaineers Adel Derstine, Lilliana Killeen, Otis Corbett, Rosalee Riccardi, Erin Stott, Julia Turetsky, Madeline Clark, Khalani Gonzales-Caban, Caraline Webster, and Jocelyn Webster (missing from photo) will present their city’s design in front of two panels of judges, including professional engineers.
After the presentations, the Mountaineer team will showcase their city and answer questions about their designs throughout the rest of the day to those gathered at the event and judges who are walking around the displays.
Thank you to Coach/BMHS Science Teacher Mrs. Amanda Hayes and Mentor Mr. Christopher Hayes for their mentorship throughout the process.
The Mountaineers are standing with their design, which is blurred out to remain top secret until the competition. Stay tuned for a follow-up on the competition and a reveal of their Future City! Let’s Go Mountaineers!!!
