BES kindergarteners in Mrs. Hannigan, Mrs. Wilson, and Mr. Dobbins’ classes have been reading and learning about communities in ELA and social studies.
During their unit of study, the kindergarten team invites community members to come in and talk with the class about their careers. The day before the Thanksgiving recess, Mr. Michael Church, EMT and Captain of Berlin’s Taconic Valley Ambulance and a Mountaineer parent, was the first presenter to share what he does on a daily basis for our Berlin CSD community. Mr. Church shared what his day-to-day responsibilities as an EMT include and the types of tools, uniform, and special vehicle he uses to serve the community as a member of the Taconic Valley Ambulance Squad.
In the coming weeks, the kindergarten Mountaineers will have more community helpers visit and share about their important community-oriented careers. Thank you to Mr. Church for taking the time to present to the kindergarten class and for answering all their great questions.

On December 4th,  BES Kindergartners had their second Community Helper visit as part of their ELA and Social Studies unit on communities. Our School Resource Officer, Deputy Alex DaLessio, stopped by to share how she keeps students and community members safe every day. Deputy DaLessio talked about her daily duties and responsibilities, pointing out some of the important tools and resources she carries with her each day, and took the time to chat and answer all the thoughtful questions the kindergarten Mountaineers had. Though the Mountaineers are very familiar with Deputy DaLessio, they really enjoyed her visit and getting to understand more about the very important role Deputy DaLessio plays here in our school community and the greater community as part of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office.
Thank you, Deputy DaLessio!
