Congratulations to this quarter’s Mountaineers who showed perseverance!
This morning, Berlin Middle High School held its quarterly Character Education assembly. This year, Berlin High School Social Studies teacher and Super Troopers Advisor Mr. Bob Gould has taken on the character education assemblies with the Super Troopers and co-advisor Mr. Erik Viner.
This quarter, the character trait was perseverance, or persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Grit is an important part of perseverance, and the students recognized were seen as showing an abundance of grit.
Super Troopers is the award-winning character education group at Berlin Middle High School. Students in grades 10-12 have the opportunity to participate in Super Troopers, who have a long history of working to build a better school climate at BCSD since 2011. Hundreds of Mountaineers have participated in Super Troopers during their time as students, and this year they are continuing that tradition.
Berlin Middle High School staff submitted the names of Mountaineers who they watched persevere during the first marking period.
Super Troopers and seniors Charlie Young and Lillian Von Schilgen were the MCs for the assembly and announced the character trait award recipients, asking them to stand and be recognized by their peers.
After the recognition, Charlie and Lillian shared a Super Troopers video they created, featuring Super Troopers, peers, and staff on perseverance, with the student body. During the second marking period, the character trait BMHS staff will be taking note of is Mountaineers who model great teamwork.
At the closing of the assembly, Berlin Middle High School Counselor Mr. James Shaw announced a new peer-nominated award for the quarter. The nomination locked boxes will be in the lunchroom, and students will be able to nominate a peer for this quarter’s trait of showing great teamwork.
The following students have been awarded for showing great perseverance at the beginning of our school year. Students receiving this award have shown the ability and grit to overcome whatever obstacles to find success.
