Dear Berlin Community Members,
Since my last communication there has been movement on a final NYS Budget. Regrettably, there were no increases in Foundation Aid over what was originally proposed by the Governor.
This Tuesday, May 13 at 7:15 pm the district will hold the required Budget Hearing in advance of the budget vote and election of board members. The hearing will be held in the Berlin MSHS Auditorium. This is yet another opportunity for members of our community to become more informed about the budget that was adopted by the board and will go before the voters.
We have worked diligently to develop a budget that maintains all opportunities currently available to students, thoughtfully and strategically addresses facility needs, and at the same time be mindful of the potential impact on taxpayers. We have appreciated the involvement and input from our community throughout the process, and would encourage all who are interested to attend the hearing or tune into the livestream.
All information and presentations shared throughout the budget development process are readily accessible on the Budget Page of the district’s website. I would encourage everyone to thoughtfully review the materials so you are positioned to make an informed decision.
This year’s budget newsletter has been mailed and should be in mailboxes in the coming days. Here is a link to a digital copy of the Budget Newsletter.
I would further encourage you to come out and cast your vote on Tuesday May 20 at the Berlin Elementary School. Polls will be open from noon to 9pm. As this year’s tax levy (3.5%) exceeds our allowable levy limit (2.19%), passage will require a supermajority (60%) for passage.
Thank you for your ongoing interest in our students, our schools and our district. We appreciate your involvement and partnership.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of Berlin’s moms!
Sincerely,
Dr. Maureen Long
